Andreas Stavropoulos’ firm XS | LA Land Architects is ostensibly based in San Francisco, California, but the boss’ tiny portable office can likely be found at the site of the company’s latest job. Indeed, Stavropoulos’ studio is so mobile that he tows it behind his car – quite easy considering that the ten-foot-long, six-foot-wide workspace used to be a standard 2003 Wells Cargo trailer. Having bought the trailer on Craigslist, the architect has since fitted it out with perforated steel walls, a bamboo plywood workstation, Wi-Fi, solar power and an illuminating skylight. Moreover, as the firm explains on its website, the transportable nature of the workspace enables there to be “a connection between the land and the designer” during projects. Stavropoulos, meanwhile, seems to have a bit of a penchant for trailers, as he has also made a home out of a revamped 1950s-era Airstream.
