The Sydney Monorail carried commuters around the Australian city for a quarter of a century before being discontinued by the local authorities in June 2013. However, in October of that year two of its carriages were put to good use at Google Australia’s newest office. Intended to become meeting rooms with air-con and video conferencing capabilities, the compartments were crane lifted into the building via a window on the second level. The unusual installation came about after Google employee Paul Cowan lightheartedly suggested that the web giant buy the monorail to take workers between its three Sydney offices. The carriages are now in place, at a reported cost to Google of around $195,000.
