Sports cars are notorious for their engines and speed, along with their price. While companies like Chevrolet, Ford, and Dodge create a variety of sports cars with affordable (and not so affordable) prices, companies like Ferrari and Lamborghini are known for their powerful sports cars that come with a hefty price tag.
The cars on this list are the most expensive vehicles ever made, including Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and even the Maybach Exelero, of which only one was made. All of the cars are unique in their own ways though they all possess more power than most of us will ever get to experience behind the wheel.
Here are 10 of the most expensive cars ever produced.
#1 – Maybach Exelero
Cost: $8 million
The Maybach Exelero was built as a one-off in 2004. It was requested by Fulda Tires, the German division of Goodyear so that the tire company can use it as a reference vehicle for a new generation of wide tires. Maybach designed the Exelero as a modern interpretation for its legendary sports car from the 1930s. It boasts 700 horsepower and a twin turbo V12 engine. Rap artist Birdman purchased the car in 2011 from Maybach for $8 billion.
#2 – Lamborghini Veneno Roadster
Cost: $4.5 million
The Lamborghini Veneno Roadster was produced as a limited edition sports car to commemorate the car maker’s 50th anniversary. Only nine of the cars were made in 2014. The roadster boasts a top speed of 221 mph and can go from 0 to 62 mph in just 2.9 seconds. The Veneno has a 6.5-liter V12 engine with an ISR transmission with five modes.
#3 – W Motors Lykan Hypersport
Cost: $3.4 million
With diamond-encrusted headlights and taillights, it’s no surprise that the Lykan Hypersport made our list of the most expensive cars ever produced. Only seven Lykan Hypersports were ever produced. According to W Motors, the sports car is powered by a 3.7-liter twin turbocharged Flat-six engine. The car can reportedly reach speeds of more than 240 mph and can go from 0 to 62 in 2.8 seconds. The Abu Dhabi police force purchased one of these vehicles in 2015.
#4 – Lamborghini Sesto Elemento
Cost: $2.2 million
The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento is another limited edition sports car produced by the Italian automaker. It debuted at the Paris Motor Show in 2010. There are only 20 Sesto Elementos in the world, all of which were produced between 2011 and 2013. Because of the vehicle’s lightweight carbon fiber body, the sports car was only meant for track use. It boasts a six-speed semi-automatic transmission with paddle shift and all wheel drive. The Sesto Elemento has a 5.2-liter V10 engine borrowed from the Gallardo.
#5 – Koenigsegg CCXR
Cost: $2.173 million
The Koenigsegg CCXR is a more environmentally-friendly version of the company’s CCX. The vehicle uses ethanol biofuel, which allows the sports car to produce a massive 1,004 horsepower. It was in production between 2005 and 2015 after its unveiling at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show. Alterations were made to the car’s original design so the automaker met US regulations. The sports car was offered with either a 4.7-liter or 4.8-liter V8 engine, as well as a 6-speed manual or automated manual transmission.
