Interesting perspective, another one is ” It’s really hard to start a business”. I get people telling me that the only reason they didn’t start there business idea yet is because They think it will be really hard… It’s really quite simple, but the hard part bringing yourself to actually “Doing it”.

I concur. I started a business with no capital last year, just a truck, years of experience and hard work that I shared with my employees. Our first year turned a small profit and now can invest for year two. If takes drive and focus. Also we used SCORE for some free advice in the beginning.

Another myth when starting your own business is "I need to register my business and get a business license even to start." The fact is you can start experimentally as a sole proprietor and do a small trial run to test the waters for a while to evaluate the viability of your venture before you ask the State god permission to exist.

Fantastic article. Couldn’t agree more, especially with the business plan myth. I hate it when people make sweeping statements too. But as you’ve said, there’s a grain of truth to some of the claims. A lot of it is just called “common sense.”

Hello, this Article isn´t only nice, one can feel the professional background. I published some articles about small business from a trainer´s point of view, and experience from coaching people, willing to start a business, on my website. Starting an own business hasn´t been an issue for me yet. However, I am very interested in this area. All 12 myths are worth being considered by business start ups. Cleaning up with wrong believes is a substantial way of saving time, and an important contribution to my collection of meta time management possibilities at starting a business. Regardless, this is an excellent post. All is true and further supports that there is only but so much learning, planning or passing off work, that one can do, when they start a business or begin working online; especially this one: “I’ll Have More Freedom to Live My Life”.
