11. Black and White Burgers
McDonald’s China introduced The Black and White Burger in 2012. According to the The Huffington Post, the yin and yang burger duo represent good and evil. Details on this feast are hard to find, but Thebeijinger.com reckons they riff on a Chinese phrase, “heibai liangdao tongchi,” which relates to people who are involved with the government (white side) and organized crime (black side). Personally, we find the thought of McDonald’s having such a political agenda a little hard to swallow. Maybe they just really, really like Michael Jackson.
Besides, to us, the idea of a black bun doesn’t sound so appetizing. And this seems to be born out by the eating experience. According to website Beijingcream.com, “New McDonald’s burger looks – and tastes – like Hell.” The site adds, “This meal offends everyone. I would sooner eat a century egg bathed in stinky tofu with a chicken-foot garnish than order this again.”
