Who ever created the list must have forgotten that there is a game called football or Association football. I guess the NFL, NBA, MLB stars are known only in USA.

Dave....u probably look as dumb as you sound. You are a disgrace to the U.S. And am an African who loves soccer, plays basketball, watches Saturday night football and supports the Philadelphia eagles. I doubt you've been to college.

These are all average paychecks now. This MLB offseason has been a joke - putting 7 players with $100 million contracts. This website Spotrac (http://www.spotrac.com) shows the breakdown of each player contract and salary by year. Pretty sad.

dave your so dumb it hurts to even reply to you but anyway “3rd-world communist sports” football not soccer is the number 1 sport in the world end of.
“Shin guards and yellow cards are for sissies and floppers”. jesus have you even watched american football they might as well give the players a protective cage to play in with the amount of safty gear they use. try watching rugby its a real sport...

Rugby is tough but god damn boring, baseball is by far the biggest joke alive, you kidding me with those fats bastards making a mockery of USA while the people starve...

Hockey is the best sport, toughest around hardest to play, its just that its a rich mans sport, costs too much to play during the younger years...and yea yea argue all you want baseball is a joke, basketball is just a bunch of mutants, foot ball is too slow, and besides nice impression on the youth of america 75% of nflers have a criminal record, golf , ah ...no ...why don't we include ping pong that's where baseball belongs...Actually I would love to line up a hockey team vs a football team and let them fight, footballers dont have a chance, baseball Ahahahaha, so what that you brawl once in a blue moon. fighting is a part of our game....

1. Association Football: Soccer, the world’s most popular game, has the largest fan following on the planet. Its origin is Chinese, where it was discovered by the English and is now the de facto sport in 93 countries - home to two billion people. It has 208 member nations and thus is easily the world’s richest sport. It also has the largest contingent of diehard fans, players and professional leagues in the world’s largest economy, Europe. The English Premier League and the Champions League are the most popular football leagues, with the matches shown live to half a billion people in 202 countries. Manchester United is the richest club in the world with a valuation of $1.87 billion. The FIFA World Cup is the largest and most lucrative sporting event in the world. The 2006 tournament, with 64 matches featuring 32 nations and television coverage in 214 countries, had a cumulative television audience of 26 billion people. The final between defending champions Italy and France was watched by 700 million viewers.

9. American Football: The most popular sport in the United States has its roots in English soccer and rugby football.

Football has easily more coverage than any American football event in America, there is no Argument.

Correct me if I'm wrong,
American football contract value is basically the salary of the player per year times how many year the contract is..
while in soccer, there are two thing in contract value.. one is the contract of salary of the player and transfer fee contract...

quote:
Real Madrid are ready to pay Cristiano Ronaldo more than £106 million ($162 Million) in wages over the duration of a six-year contract at the Bernabeu after Sir Alex Ferguson sanctioned the world record £80 million (122.3 Million) sale of the Manchester United winger.

it means to get ronaldo to play in your club you have to pay 162 million dollar up front .. additional 122.3 million dollar as salary for 6 years.. (20.4 million / year).. so total will be $284.3 Million

compared to Alex Rodriguez – New York Yankees – Baseball – 10-year contract worth $275 million. (27.5 million per year)

Maybe the reason this article does not include soccer player because it definitely will dominate the top 25 most expensive sport player...

to Chugboat, please don't pay any attention to the ignorant Guille...not all Americans feel that way about football (soccer). I quite enjoy watchin Premiership matches when they are on tv and I also like watch American Football as well. Every sport has their own nuances that must be understood before passing judgement. I agree with most ppl here that this list is pretty biased based on the player listings provided. The Beckham deal was probably the most expensive at the time, but Ronaldo's is even more outrageous (if I recall correctly that is). Some of these Premiership guys earn in half a month what some of these ball players (like that megadouche Manny Ramierz) earn in a year, ant its not fair to not give them the proper recognition.
