Gus--thanks. I rehearsed a few times before today's lunch meeting, arrived, and guess what? Everyone at the table was interested in sharing life stories instead of elevator pitches. Go figure! So I have yet to truly test the mettle of my new pitch.

Thanks for your feedback, everyone. Maria--thanks for the tips! I'll try them out tomorrow, when I have another "Connect 4" lunch. I'll update how it goes.

Well we've all been there; got our foot caught in our mouths; me included -- and I help clients with their "business snapshot" -- an elevator speeches

Here's the basic template from the clients perspective:

I or We help __________ to do _____________ by providing__________.
It's always about the clients.

I like this sort of version; a bit longer of course then what I wrote above.

I help women who own professional service businesses who are struggling to get out of self-employed mode. You see they went into business to create a business, but what they've ended up with are two jobs -- the boss and the employee. Elevating Your Business helps them take back control over the business, substantially improve their profits and help them take more time off. We provide 1:1 support; be it coaching, consulting or teaching them new skills.

An example of a recent client we helped is....

==========
To me, you could help small business owners shorten the time it takes to meet and then gain clients...

or position themselves in the community so that they're the first business owner someone thinks of when someone needs an "x"

or you make social networking easier because you do it for them.

or you do the writing for them; so they can do the business they love.

Let me know what you come up with :)

Considerably, I assume that when you don't know what is going to happen, you should only give yourself straight forward. No long talks, no vocabulary show and try to make everything as clear as possible with minimum words. Of course, the other side has to understand you too!
