Carnival of the Capitalists 4th Anniversary Edition

thecotcheader.jpg

It is hard to believe it's been four years since Jay and I launched the Carnival of the Capitalists. Back then, it was innovative and fresh because we were the first spin-off from the original blog carnival, Carnival of the Vanities. For that first year, the CotC was a powerful source of traffic. It was usually linked by Instapundit, and that alone could send nearly 2000 new visitors to your site (that was a ton in 2003/2004). But the low barriers to entry of creating a carnival led to an explosion of ever more niche carnivals that effectively killed their traffic value. Spammers of course compounded the problem by submitting useless posts just for the links. All in all, it's amazing the CotC has kept going. Luckily for us, Jay is stubborn.

This will be the last time I host the CotC as Businesspundit. For those who don't follow regularly, I'm selling this blog and *retiring* in February. I want to write somewhere else. I want to return to blogging for fun instead of for money. I want to write less often, but more in-depth. I hope the new owners keep promoting the CotC, but whether or not they do will be up to them. Anyway, on to this week's carnival…
