If they judge my trustworthiness in less than a second, what hope is there? Better to use the phone and keep them guessing.

This is exactly why I shaved my goatee - to look more trustworthy.

I had a buddy trying to start a business who had never heard and had no idea that most Americans are innately suspicious of men with facial hair (in general). I didn’t know it was possible not to know that.
