American Airlines and US Airways are now a single entity

American Airlines merges fully with US Airways

American Airlines Group announced on Friday that its unit U.S. Airways Group has fully merged with the company.

The airline carrier merged with the airline in 2013 and began to focus on efforts to integrate operations at both businesses.

American Airlines Group, the owner of American Airlines, said U.S. Airways stopped operating as a separate entity effective December 30, 2015.

The two companies have been using a single booking system and operating as a single brand since October 2015.

The announced change is an administrative step and does not affect the company’s employees or customers.

“With US Airways merged into American Airlines and U.S. Airways Group merged into American Airlines Group, all of their obligations (including debts and liabilities) become the obligations of American Airlines and American Airlines Group, respectively,” American Airlines spokesman Matt Miller told Reuters.
