« The new ‘pods also make me wonder about Apple’s timing. »

I see nothing wrong with the timing. Apple is selling lots of iPods during the last calendar quarter, so the iPod usually gets a refresh for the holiday season. The seasonality is less of a factor for the iPhone, new model releases will instantly boost sales, even in July. Again, it was the right decision.

« Why even get an iPod anymore? »

Every quarter, millions of people get an iPod. They don't want to deal with a cellphone carrier (or not just yet), they need a smaller device, etc.

Yea why an iPod?...because it's in not fun to have an iPhone run out of battery juice after spending too many hours listening to mp3s.

"Why even get an iPod anymore?"

Can you imagine running with that gargantuan device (iPhone)? Nope, I need my iPod. I'm not risking a $200-$300 device on the beach, on my runs, in my car.
