Someone pointed out to me that Microsoft is nowhere to be found on this year's Businessweek 50. I'm not really surprised. Microsoft used to be great, and with the research they are doing for the future, I think they will be a growth company again someday when that comes to fruition, but in their current phase, they are just mediocre. They are chasing the wrong things, and aren't listening enough to customers. I'm a shareholder, but I think it is becoming ever more confusing to understand the overall MS business picture. I'd like to see them spin off some companies and let the individual units stick with what they are good at. Parents always have a hard time letting their kids go, but I think Gates and Ballmer need to do that. They have built a great company, but from what I have read, they still want to have their hands in too much.
