Long time readers may remember that when I first heard about Cargo, I thought it would fail. I subsribed a few months ago. At $9.95 for a year I figured it would provide some interesting blog material. I received the first issue a few weeks ago and just got around to finishing it and I have to say that I have changed my mind. I think Cargo will be around for awhile.
The magazine obviously targets younger men, who aren't as caught up in the "guys don't shop" stereotypes. But even more important, it really targets people like me who would like to dress well and stylish, but don't want to spend all day at the store to get two pieces of clothing with the right look and fit. By spending one hour looking at this magazine, I can now go to a store and pick out stuff that is reasonably cool and modern without a problem (that is – if Cargo is right about what is cool). I can't wear the real cutting edge stuff anyway because it makes me feel uncomfortable, so I just want to be in the ballpark. As much as I hate to say it, I meet with a lot of people every week and thus my appearance is important. Now I have a fashion consultant on my side, helping me convey the image I would like to convey. There is plenty of other stuff in the magazine, some things I didn't read because I am not looking to buy the next hot car or whatever. But overall, I was surprised at the quality of the magazine. It isn't for everyone, but if you see one around, pick it up and shoot me an email letting me know what you think. I think Cargo may be successful after all.
