Changes to Jotzel – Taking Suggestions

We've been talking about changes to Jotzel because although traffic is good when there are lots of postings, submissions and votes are almost non-existent. That tells me that people are stopping by to see if there is anything they have not seen elsewhere instead of to submit and vote. If that is true, why go through all the hassle of submitting and voting? I end up having to force most posts to publish anyway.

The two things on the table at the moment are:
1)turn it into some sort of roundup/aggregator of certain types of business content, where just a few authors will submit things (like a linkblog of stuff I don't post here because I don't want to bombard you with 15 things a day)

2)turn it into a place for deep longer posts that will have to be voted on before published. We considered business how-tos, and other analytical types of articles.

  • 1)For a few months, post stuff without need for voting–to generate reader traffic. Once you have a critical mass of readers, and lots of postings to winnow out, enable voting again.
2)Use a comments system that people will already be registered for, so they can comment without re-registering.
