Costco is dominating automobile sales by using a simple trick that customers love

Costco sold 465,000 vehicles in 2015, a 16.8% increase over 2014.

In comparison, AutoNation, the country’s largest automobile dealership, moved 533,000 vehicles in 2014.


Costco is taking over the automobile selling processing by offering fixed prices on vehicles. The company sells cars through 3,000 dealerships that offer a “streamlined buying experience” to all of its members.

The company also revealed on Monday that members purchased or leased 58,000 vehicles through the holiday season, a 35% increase from the previous year’s GM Holiday Sales Event.

In a promising note for GM, more than half of Costco’s customers said they made the leap to GM branded vehicles because of the promotion.

“General Motors is pleased that Costco members continue to find our holiday offer with Costco Auto Program valuable,” GM spokesman Dan Flores said in a statement.

“We were able to work with Costco Auto Program to ensure that we offered a diverse vehicle selection and value that resonates with Costco members, and received great results that included conquests from other brands,” he added.
