Delta Air Lines Inc’s pilots are seeking a huge pay increase of about 40% compounded over three years.
The request comes at a time when the carrier’s profits are surging, Bloomberg reports. A memo from the Air Line Pilots Association revealed the request.
The union is taking a more aggressive stance in negotiations with the Atlanta-based airline after two-thirds of the pilots previously rejected a deal for a 22% wage hike over three years, Bloomberg says.
Delta’s pilots would likely become the highest paid in the industry if they receive the raise they want.
Pilots at the airline have taken several pay cuts since the early 2000s. The cuts were a result of less travel and a bankruptcy protection agreement the company reached during tough times.
Delta and the union are not responding to requests for comments at this time.
