Elon Musk Says China Car Production Could Be Two Years Away

Tesla Motors in China

Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk says car production in China could start in as little as two years.

Musk says opening a local plant in China could reduce the retail price of Tesla models by one-third.

During a speech at Tsinghua University in Beijing the Tesla and SpaceX founder said the company is exploring how it can reduce the price of its popular luxury vehicles.

In other Tesla news, Consumer Reports for the very first time removed its buy suggestion for the vehicles. In response to the report, Musk said the publication ranked newly produced vehicles, and noted that many of the issues listed by Consumer Reports had already been fixed in post-production.
