OK, let’s see if we can make this clearer… the issue was not the speech per se. The issue was the content of the “worksheets” that were handed down from the White House to the DOE suggesting kids read books on Obama and write letters to themselves asking, “What can I do to help our President?” THAT was released before any transcript of the speech, and it begged the question… Exactly WHAT was the Pres. going to talk about when it sounds like from the work sheets he is going to “task kids with helping him.” Only after the big hubbabaloo and talks of overstepping his bounds (sound familiar?) and hints at indoctrination does the speech get neutered to the transcript we now see and be a “feel-good-stay-in-school” version. Anyone notice how the worksheets were yanked off the net? Anyone here want to own up to the fact that the Sec of Ed even said the worksheets were “wrongheaded”? (BTW, his words, not mine.)

I have become disgusted with the Republican party and the far right that have overtaken it. What on earth are they complaining about in Obama’s speech?

I heard what Glenn Beck was saying, I received the emails in protest, and all I can think about is how ridiculous all this is. America has serious problems but trying to make something out of this nonsense. Michael Steel and the ENTIRE Republican leadership should step up and put a stop to it. I doubt the have the courage though for fear of upsetting “their base constituents.”

If we can’t agree on the message to stay in school, what can we agree on?

I was pretty sure the conservative fright would turn out to be a tempest in a teapot and thankfully I was correct. How can encouraging kids be interpreted as anything other than that. I see now on the Fox website that the address is being panned as too bland…what do they want?

This is what people don’t want their children to hear?
I’m a college student & I’ll admit some of the parts were a bit boring, but overall it was a good speech.
Maybe some kid will listen to it and want to try harder in school.

I find this CRAP about not letting children watch the presidents speech be seen at school is just well stupid its never been an issues that i can remeber they watched the swearing in so what is the big deal?????????????????????
