		<description>You must understand that GM runs it company the way it wants to. At the time of the bailout they were not selling cars. They eventually convinced the government and got their money. When it was the proper time GM took the allocations off their cars and trucks and sails went back up. Rick Wagner told his employees three or more years how and when all this was going to happen. He even predicted when the company was going to recover to nearly the day. 
The layoffs were necessary. They wanted to dump the pension plan and all benefits. The bulk of the employees that were gotten rid of were these people. Our group dumped a few younger ones but hired them back. This proves that they did take people other than the old ones that were close to retirement. 
The following link shows a historical connection that proves that GM gets involved in foreign issues. This one might have been as interesting as the current bailout, but it is worth reading.
