Google CEO awarded $199 million in stock

Google CEO Sundar Pichai is now one of the most well-compensated chief executives in the world.

Google has awarded the well-known and admired Pichai with $199 million in Google stock.

Google granted 273,328 Class C shares to Pichai on February 3, according to a regulatory filing. In order to fully cash out, Pichai will need to remain a Google employee through 2019.

In comparison, Apple CEO Tim Cook was given a package worth $378 million when he took over as CEO.

According to Equilar, the highest-paid CEO of 2014 was David Zaslav of Discovery Communications, who brought home $156.1 million.

Sundar Pichai was named Google CEO in August, following the company’s decision to restructure all of its major brands under a new parent company called Alphabet.

Google co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin run Alphabet, while Pichai handles the day-to-day at Google.

Pichai has worked at Google since 2004. He started by building the no longer available Google toolbar, then took over at Chrome because being named as Google’s product chief.
