These flash based sites seem to be less complicated and a good transition for those unfamiliar with virtual worlds. I like your comparison. I also agree Lively has much improvement to be done from it's current Beta version until it can cause trouble for 3D worlds. Considering Lively doesn't really have a "world" yet, nor does it have an economy (although they are working on it it looks like), it is still getting a lot of visitors just from it's "new" hype and being from Google.
