Gun sales jumped by 26% at Sturm Ruger

Ruger

Sturm, Ruger & Co. is reporting a 26% increase in net sales for the first quarter of 2016. The company’s earnings also surged by 50% compared to the same period one year earlier.

The sales increase shouldn’t come as a surprise, as Business Pundit recently reported, a record number of FBI background checks for gun sales was recently reported.

Ruger says nearly one-third of its sales were from new products, including the AR-556 semiautomatic rifle.

The company also saw a large number of LC9 sales, a semiautomatic pistol.

Ruger has created a line of pink, camo, and purple LC9’s tailored towards women.

The company didn’t say what traditional gun lines helped add to the surge in sales for Q1 2016.

Analysts and gun sellers have said the increase is driven by a twofold fear: People are worried about violent crime and also the specter of increased gun control.

Smith & Wesson also recently announced a big increase in gun sales for the first quarter of the year.
