Alexander Hamilton is remaining as the face of the $10 bill while Harriet Tubman will push Andrew Jackson off the face of the $20 bill.
An official announcement is expected to come later Wednesday from Treasury Secretary Jack Lew, who will also reveal that a montage of leaders from the women’s suffrage movement that will be added to the back of the $10 bill.
The women pictured on the back of the $10 will be the first to appear on US paper currency in more than 100 years.
There was some pressure to keep Alexander Hamilton on the $10 bill without any other historical figures. Opponents to the newly designed bills said the nation’s first treasury secretary shouldn’t share top billing with anyone else.
Other opponents said women should have their own bill and shouldn’t have to share the spotlight with any men.
The new solution gives Harriet Tubman her own bill while allowing other historical figures to be featured next to one of America’s founding father’s.
