From ABC News:
The economic downturn is hurting American workers across the board, including older workers, which is why many are putting off retirement or re-entering the workforce. A new survey by AARP found that seven in 10 workers older than 50 expect to be employed in retirement, mainly in part-time work.
The article goes on to say that half of the top 20 jobs featured in the AARP’s “Best Employers for Workers Over 50” list are in healthcare.
This is ironic. I assume the biggest reason that retired people seek part-time work is to cover healthcare costs. Meanwhile, their best chances of finding employment are in the healthcare sector.
I hope that those part-time healthcare jobs offer people excellent insurance coverage. It seems like a lost cause to have a part-time job at a hospital or clinic that barely pays enough to cover healthcare.
