Kevin Plank discusses his company, how it began, and where he wants to take it. I particularly like this quote at the end.
We're not going to be happy being a $100 million company or a nice $250 million family-run business. One of our first customers asked me recently how big we want to be. I said I want to be really big. Later it bothered me that I answered that way. Now I say I just want to be a great company.
A wise thing to say. Goals and growth are both good things to have, but too many companies pursue growth for growth's sake. They end up in markets where they have no core competencies, lose focus, and end up worse off. Focus on running a great company, and you will find opportunities for growth. Focus on growth for its own sake, and you will make bad decisions.
