Visa and Microsoft has stepped up into the "money for your business" online advertising game. Visa's business breakthroughs gives 10K worth of services to the winner, while Microsoft's Ideawins gives 100K plus retail space to their champ.
I've often wondered why a company flush with cash and looking for new ideas (like Microsoft or Yahoo) doesn't sponsor a startup tournament. Collect ideas and then pick 20 of them to get 10K in funding. Three months later pick the best 5 to get 100K funding. Six months later pick the best one and fund it as needed. It seems like a cheap way to find good talent and new ideas.
