An iPhone bug that was recently discovered is causing some major headaches for Apple customers.
The bug occurs when users set their iPhone date to January 1, 1970.
Why would anyone set their phone to that date on purpose? Trolls are convincing users that doing so will show them the old school Apple logo on their devices.
Here’s the notice that was being sent out on 4Chan.
The fake news has gone viral on Facebook and Reddit, leading to angry users who can no longer use their devices.
Anyone changing their iPhone’s date hoping for a rainbow-colored Apple logo easter egg will soon discover their phone refuses to boot up.
Users will have to bring their devices to the Apple Store, at which point they are likely to receive a replacement phone.
The bug is related to a very old, well-documented issue with the Unix class of operating systems on which Apple’s iOS is loosely based.
