		<description>If a company increases it&#039;s profits by say, dumping toxic waste into a stream, the shareholders benefit from that bad behavior.  Isn&#039;t it only fair that they bear part of the liability as well?

But I think it is reasonable to say that in general companies are under considerable pressure to produce returns to shareholders.  The pressure is compounded when you add competitors.

I wouldn&#039;t say there&#039;s anywhere near an equal pressure to be environmentally responsible.

I&#039;m not sure why you don&#039;t like this post. While I think that Vinay&#039;s thinking is incomplete, i.e. all costs are eventually passed on to consumers through increased prices and/or decreased choices, his posting provides an opportunity to better understand how differently people view the world.

Another thing I find interesting are the posted comments.  They make me wonder, &quot;Short of providing a more compelling emotional event, how do you get through to people that develop their views through emotional logic rather than balanced consideration?&quot;
