		<description>It always amazes me that people are afraid to ask for a raise. If you are a top performer your compensation should reflect it. Your paycheck should grow with your contribution. If this is the case your boss doesn&#039;t want to lose you to the competition and is more than happy to increase your income.

It also amazes me how many people expect a raise but don&#039;t base this on actual performance. Pay increases aren&#039;t an obligation they are earned.</description>

Another point not covered is time scales? I once asked 6 month inot a new jpb for a pay rise and was told not yet, 12 months in and not now 18 months in no 24 months in I left! They did not value me as much as I valued myself. Perhaps I had got in at the to of the scale but they never promoted me despite constant praise for my work!
