PR people send me a lot of stuff these days and some of it I blog about and most of it I don't. (Blame the PR people, many of whom still don't understand how, when, and why to approach bloggers) I was recently sent The Marketing Playbook and I have to say that I think it is extremely cool. The book is not one you would sit down and read cover to cover. With this you would either browse through it when you needed something or cover one page a week at a marketing meeting. It consists of 102 "plays" and each play is just one page. It contains a marketing message, a strategy blurb for that message, cost info, coaching points, and assignments. The assigmnents are broken down into marketing team, sales team, administrator, etc. There are other neat things on the page too, like a box at the bottom that tell you if this is a strategic or tactical move, whether it's best suited for selling products or selling services, and who the "primary receiver" in your company should be. I can honestly say that I've never seen anything remotely like this book. It is very refreshing. And yes, blogging is in there too. Play #73 is about starting an executive blog. Pound for pound this book is packed with more practical knowledge than anything I have ever seen. So check out the site and view the example pages. I think you will like what you see.
