Here is an interesting story on how a company is trying to repackage the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in a more Sopranos type show – with cliffhanger endings that will have the kids eagerly waiting for the next show. The premise behind it all:

After watching children pour themselves into Pok�mon, Grossman and his colleagues came to the conclusion that children soak up details because they want to become experts at something of which adults have no understanding.

I have seen the Ninja Turtles cartoon, and I definitely fall into that "have no understanding" category.
