Some quick notes from Polly Labarre’s speech today at the IdeaFestival. She spoke about the things she learned while researching her book, “Mavericks at Work.”

Per my post below about what works in management, Polly noted that even though mavericks are original thinkers, they aren’t command and control. They don’t believe that they have all the right ideas or that only their ideas matter. they build their companies with a good “architecture of participation.”

Polly’s questions for mavericks:

1. What are you fighting for?

2. If you went out of business tomorrow, would anyone miss you? Why?

One of her final points – leadership shouldn’t be a zero sum game.
