"I imagine the people in charge still put all their faith in the free market and trickle-down economics."

Would someone tell me how this stimulus plan isn't trickle-down economics? After all, I don't see individuals recieving this money directly. The plan has money going in different directions with the hope that it will reach the pockets of the common citizen. This sounds like trickle-down theory to me. It's just that Obama trickle-down theory begins at Pennsyvania Ave. and not Wall St.

So the question isn't whether we put our faith in trickle-down economics, since both sides do. The question is whether we put our faith in a free market or socialism. And yes, I will take a truly free market everytime!

Congress is corrupt and should not do anything. All should go home and not go back to work (?) until Fall. By then, the economy would be back on track.

I just went to Americans for Prosperity and signed the petition. There are several alternatives to the stimulus and the best one, offered by Rep. Louie Gohmert of Texas, is very simple. Every American taxpayer (meaning those who actually pay taxes) would pay no federal income or FICA taxes for the first two months of 2009. For the typical American family -- earning about $50,000 a year -- that would mean they would keep about $2000 that would otherwise be paid to the government. Gohmert’s plan doesn’t pay for Wall Street bonuses or let banks use bailout money to buy other banks or pay dividends. It doesn’t rely on bureaucrats to pay money out to the right people at the right time or try to stimulate the economy with token payments to people who don’t pay taxes. Most Americans pay about 25 percent of their income in federal income tax and another 7.25 percent in FICA (social security and Medicare taxes). Computing how much money Gohmert’s tax holiday would leave in your family’s checkbook is very simple. Take your monthly income (the gross amount shown on your pay stubs before tax and any other withholding) and multiply it by .66. That amount is roughly what Gohmert’s two-month tax holiday will leave in your pocket to spend as you see fit instead of letting Congress give it away to labor unions, ACORN, etc.

Do pages and pages of detail make something more worthwile? I think not. We have pages and pages of detail concerning a bunch of economic shots in the dark. There is more evidence showing that this "stimulus" will not work than there is showing that it will. The politicians ramming this down our throats do not care about the economy. They care about their political position tomorrow and this is what they are securing.

We need nothing more that the volumes written throughout history to show that this is a bad idea. We can not simply "solve" every problem. Somethings take time...not legislation. You may be willing to vote away your childrens' liberty, but I am not!
