Is "Big Food" to blame for this? (picture from this week's Economist magazine)

Obesity is supposedly becoming an epidemic in America. I don't quite understand the view that companies are responsible because ultimately, people should make their own decisions about what they eat. I don't see what the big deal is about being a little overweight anyway. Sure, it is a bit more of a health concern, but so is the depression that comes from eating carrots and celery all day to stay thin. The Economist magazine has a great section on food this week, that covers these issues and many more. Most of the articles require a subscription, but you can read this intro for free.
