Sam’s Club CEO gave an interview on diversity and she’s now being called racist

Rosalind Brewer - A racist or not

Sam’s Club CEO Rosalind Brewer recently gave us speech on diversity and it has led to claims that she’s a racist.

During a CNN interview Brewer was asked if she promoted diversity within her company.

“It has to start with top leadership,” Brewer said. “My executive team is very diverse and I make that a priority. I demand it within my team.”

She said she mentors women inside and outside of her company, as well, and also encourages Sam’s Club’s partners to hire a more diverse workforce.

That all sounds great, but here’s where the speech fell apart.

“Just today we met with a supplier and the entire other side of the table was all Caucasian males. That was interesting,” Brewer said. “I decided not to talk about it directly with [the supplier’s] folks in the room because there were actually no female, like, levels down. So I’m going to place a call to him.”

Critics believe Brewer’s remarks are evidence that she advocates employing and hiring anyone who isn’t a white male.

It’s a very strange argument from Twitter users considering four of the eight people on her executive team are in fact, white men. Brewer of being a “racist” toward white men and are threatening to boycott Sam’s Club.

Some internet users who haven’t looked into her own team are now calling Brewer a “racist” toward white men and are threatening to boycott Sam’s Club.

Here’s one users response with an embed of the interview:

And another.

And one more for good measure.
