When I saw this graphic from Scary Ideas (larger version), I couldn't help but laugh. I'm not sure what the site is about, but this is way too true.

    Way too true, indeed.

    Versions of this have been kicking around for years. The earliest version I saw was for a tangible product (”How engineering designed it” “How manufacturing built it”)

    It reminds me of what one engineering professor told me years ago. The hardest part of designing something is getting your requirements in order. In my experience, they usually change long after the design process has begun. Language is more ambiguous than we realize.

    I recall the same one as David Foster. Ten years ago when I was involved in the design and manufacture of specialized industrial equipment it was making money for the producers of fax paper.
