Sears shares are up significantly since the announcement that the credit division may be sold. I guess investors see things differently that I do (see this and this). But according to this article, Sears may not get the price they want for their credit division.
I was at a Sears last week and I asked an assistant manager how sales had been affected since Lands End is now available in stores. She said it was very hot merchandise, but I find it hard to believe that can be sustained. Sure it is hot now because the catalog only aspect made it more exclusive. But if any fool can walk in and buy it at Sears, the Lands End brand name may lose some value.
