Super Bowl tickets are selling for $5,178 each, according to ticket price tracker SeatGeek.
The cost per ticket over the last five years has fallen to an average of $4,000. However, fans seem eager to cheer on the Carolina Panthers or Denver Broncos when they meet up for Super Bowl 50 on February 7.
A pair of club seats near midfield have already sold for $12,100 each, making them the most expensive seats sold so far, according to SeatGeek.
“This year’s Super Bowl is on pace to not only be the most expensive Super Bowl, but the most expensive event, topping things like the Mayweather-Pacquiao boxing match and The Masters,” said Chris Leyden, analyst with SeatGeek.
In comparison, the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is the most expensive ticket in SeatGeek’s data base, with the average price for the match last May coming in at $4,672.
It’s believed that 14% of tickets purchased by residents in the Boston area could go back on the market now that the New England Patriots are no longer Super Bowl contenders.
Super Bowl 50 will be played in Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. That is the second largest market for tickets, with 10% of the purchases.
Some experts believe that high-spenders in Silicon Valley could push prices even further as the big event approaches.
