I heard my first anti-Atkins commercial on the radio today. Surprisingly, the product was a weight loss supplement, not another part of the food industry. The voice in the commercial talked about all the phone calls their company gets about people who have unhealthy side effects from low-carb diets and people who were miserable from giving up the foods they loved. The first scare tactic will probably not have much effect, but I think the second point will. Tons of people love bread, which is why restaurants with free bread always seem to be more crowded than those that don't offer it (yeah I know that could be a correlation, not a causal effect). It was an interesting commercial, and the first real anti-Atkins ad I have seen or heard. This marketing battle is heating up, and should be lots of fun to watch.
