It is really hard to become a good salesperson! I am an introvert, and I have problems every time I have to contact the clients. But you have mentioned very useful tips. Thanks! I hope they will help me to improve my sales abilities.

These suggestions are excellent. One more: listen to tapes/CDs by pros like Stephan Schiffman. Through practice, practice, practice he helps you build your own rhythm so that you sound more convincing and feel more confident. Also recommended: books by Jeff Gitomer.

Great post! Good sales people are every bit as professional as doctors, or lawyers, but get much less respect, probably because most of their education is "on the job" rather than in a university.

When some little kid comes to my door "selling" something for school or scouts, I wonder why their parents don't send them door-to-door to write wills or perform appendectomies.

Holy cow.....I have been selling for years. It is an art, a science, a performance, a struggle, as well as the only way to make a living. I am just stunned that no one has mentioned this sooner, sales is what eveybody does all the time. Not that I am an advocate, but the greatest sales pitch of all time is religion. I am not saying that in a bad way, it just that sales is constantly promoting a better world in which we all can live.

Howdy,
Another important sales tip is to make sure the intended recipient actually receives your call, email or letter. How do you do that? First, do your research--make sure you're pitching the right person and spell names correctly. Second, use a trackable communication method, like a read receipt or Constant Contact. If you send a letter, tell them you'll follow up in a week or so and then DO IT.

Selling is enterprise but everyone thinks sales and about Willy Loman, so they take "marketing" whatever that is.
Great posting...

I agree, you are always selling something whether it's yourself, your idea, your program or a product. I am not a salesperson but the power of persuasion comes in handy when you are dealing with almost anytime of client. Whether I'm dealing with students or business leaders I'm using the power of persuasion to win them over - it's life!

I totally agree with your article. I own a professional development company, Lyon Sales Institute, in which I inspire NON-TRADITIONAL Salespeople better understand and appreciate the concept of selling in order to increase their sales-confidence and grow their business. Often times these are very introverted people. My book will be available in December, "Sales is NOT a Dirty Word: THE Inspirational Selling Guide for Non-traditional salespeople", through my publisher www.publishamerica.com. You may be interested in it. Search the publisher website by the title. Happy Selling!

What makes introverts good salesmen is their willingness to listen. While you should have your pitch practiced, the ability to listen and adjust is often the determining factor in a sale.
