  • I’ve always loved “Do first things first, and second things not at all.” It’s the simple answer to effectiveness which Drucker defined as “doing the right job right.”

    Setting priorities is the single, thorniest issue for leaders and decision makers. Most executives avoid it.

    I remember one big company CEO who was very vocal about “never giving anyone more than four priorities.” He followed that with a memo that included seventeen things he wanted his top executives to do. That shows you how hard it is to prioritize.
