Jay has a nice post at the CotC blog about how influential the Carnival of the Capitalists has been. It was the second blog carnival that was actually called a carnival, and has been the most influential in the vast proliferation of carnivals that has happened since.

We pioneered using a fixed e-mail address for entries, and having a widely linked, easily found site listing hosts, past editions, and information, though others beat us to using Gmail and using a blog instead of static info pages.

It is also the first carnival to launch an affiliated project that is a sort of daily version of the cotc, Jotzel (which will be formally announced Monday, we think).

More than anything, the CotC has been successful because we have listened to our *customers* and tried to find solutions to the things they didn't like. Many of the ideas we have implemented came from readers and contributors. My only surprise is that the mainstream media has never picked up on it, even though there is some really great writing to be found there each week. Thanks to everyone that has contributed/hosted/read over the last 2+ years. You are the ones that have made it successful.
