Nearly 175,000 toy jewelry kits imported from China are being recalled because of high lead levels that pose a threat to children.

The recalled product, Cra-Z-Jewelz Gem Creations, includes three different versions: the Shimmer N’ Sparkle Cra-Z-Art Cra-Z-Jewelz Gem Creations Ultimate Gem Machine, the Shimmer N’ Sparkle Cra-Z-Art Cra-Z-Jewelz Gem Creations Gem Charm and Slider Bracelets, and the My Look Cra-Z-Art Cra-Z-Jewelz Gem Creations Ultimate Gem Machine.

The problem in each kit is the slider bracelet, which contained a high level of lead.

When ingested by children high levels of lead can cause brain damage and neurological issues in children.

“Lead has a devastating effect on developing children and has no place in children’s products, especially toys,” said Elliot Kaye, chairman of the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The kits were sold at some of the nation’s largest retail chains, including Kmart, Toys R Us,Walmart and Target.

Consumers are advised to take the products away from their children immediately and to contact the importer, LaRosa Industries, for a refund.
