And here we are, almost a year after my original comment, and Web 3.0 is still not 1) clearly defined nor 2) a prevalent term being used to describe online marketing methods or functions of social sites.

Web 2.0, just like "social media" or "corporate synergy", is just a term to describe something going on in our world. It's as real as Facebook or LinkedIn or Youtube.

And by your statement, if Web 2.0 is not real then neither is Web 3.0?

Karl - the natural order of progression. Web 2.0 was not real but was invented. Web 3.0 takes 2.0 to another level which if you read taz you'll understand it all...read it twice.

When did we jump past Web 2.0 and get to Web 3.0? Did I miss a memo or online announcement?

Twitter, Facebook, Linkedin, Youtube, streaming live video (Ustream), and other sites mentioned in this article and on the Amazon page have been around for a long time and are heavily used by businesses to market themselves.

Can anyone explain what Web 3.0 entails? A reference is made here to the "...openness of the Web." Isn't it wide open already?
