A guy I used to work with, last I knew, had to travel to Taiwan all the time. The freaky thing you run into is the hole in the floor style toilets. There’s a mix of those and American style, so depending where you stay or go you might avoid them entirely.

Other than that I can’t remember a thing offhand.

I’d recommend trying some of the dumplings (especially at a place called Ding Tai Fung) if you have a chance, they are absolutely brilliant. If you ever swing by Hong Kong, drop me a line .

Taipei is a really nice city, although very, very humid by the dry heat standards I’m used to in Texas. It can be really American in some parts (Tianmu, where all the ambassadors live)- not sure which part of the city you’re staying in. If you want a feel for the Taiwanese culture, definitely visit the night market (ye shi) for the really cheap but delicious foods that Taiwan is famous for. In places like this it would probably be necessary to go with someone who speaks mandarin, though!

In Asia dont be pre occupied with success stories what bussiness magazines and newPapers .They only present one side of story.Contrast in Asia is everwhere and in every field .
Asians give high respect to outsiders but be sure that you dont wonder alone at nights.This is higly subjective with the place of visit but still forieners are easy target for pickPocket and small crimes.
I hope it will be memorable experience for you.
