I’m an MBA student doing a case study on Walmart and those of you who hit on the strategy of putting competition out of business are correct. IT was their foundational strategy to open in rural areas and then to be the low price leader. Mom and pop couldn’t compete and so went out of business. As there was no where else nearby to work, they could pay employees crap wages because they were the only game in town. They outsourced production to China in 05′ in order to get cheaper product and to put pressure on domestic suppliers to drive prices down for Walmart.
The big question is…why do people (who have a choice) shop there? Walmart took a hit with the negative press and their sales have stagnated somewhat. If people continue to avoid shopping at Walmart, they will be forced to change their business practices. If consumers continue to shop there, well then, Walmart will keep doing what it does…..

What is Walmart trying to do. They are cutting associates hours, combining departments for one dept. mgr. Can’t ever find anyone to help you. At check out you have to stand in line forever because they cut hours so they don’t have people for check out. I was in the store Dec. 23rd at 9pm, store was packed with Christmas shoppers, lines long because they only had 4 registers open. All they care about is there big salaries and big bonuses. Walmart cares less about there associates or customers.

I guess I don’t understand customers who criticize wal-mart employees about their attitude. I never expect them to be any other way then what they project. To me it’s like buying at an auto-mat. There not selling $50.00 scarves or $300.00 purses, $1,500.00 coats. They point the way I’m happy. Give me a smile or nasty look thats alright too. It’s rough stocking those auto-mats…..!

I refuse to patronize wal-mart for over a year now. What I finally realized what wal-mart was all about when they remodeled a local store and added a food section. I thought it was kind of stupid because there are a dozen grocery stores in the area and one right next door to the wal-mart. Then the LIGHT come on to why wal-mart is in business. My attitude and outlook towards wal-mart is that wal-mart is in business to put everyone else out of business. Shop at the little local guys. Shopping at the so called speciality shops may cost a dollar or two more but these people have families to feed to. BUY AMERICAN if possible. Let wal-mart try to figure out what they have done wrong. We dont need stores that really don’t care about customers or employees. Corporate greed and the bottom line is the only is the only thing of importance to wal-mart.

I know from painful personal experiance that walmart does’nt care about you, me or anyone but thier own fat parisitic selves. They are vermin meant to be exterminated. Nothing more, nothing less!

they treat like their employees like crap. i know i’ve worked their for 4 years, and am willing to take a $4 pay cut back down to minimum wage just to get out of there! yeah, the pay might nice, for someone living where i do, but it’s soo not worth it for a place that where an employee does everything plus some, and recieves absolutly nothing in return, half the time not even a thank you.

walmart must be doing something right because they are a juggernaut. i live far from the nearest walmart,i wish one was closer. They are open 24 hours often, they are cheaper than everyone else, and they have a liberal return policy. if your walmart is dirty,if the have no shopping carts, if the bathroom is dirty, u should go to the district manager. all those problems are because of bad management. yes,they kill local businesses, but actually ,thats not them,thats you buying their crap. if u hate them so much,dont go there. as far as employees, they are the largest private employer in the country. they actually have employees that have been there over 30 years.

I worked there my senior year. After my 3 months during my review I was told what a great job I was doing but when they were filling out my papers they were marking mediocre attributes. So I got a huge $.25 an hr raise. After working there 7 months I put in a notice that I needed a Fri. and Sat. off in 2 months since it was my graduation that weekend. well the week rolls up schedual comes out and no I didnt get them off but the suck ass other workers did and were being gawed at by the other workers when I asked wtf was going on they said they didnt get me notice. So Sat. when I was suppose to come to work they didnt get that notice I never came back. it’s been ten years ago and within a week of leaving I had a better job paying $3 more an hr and I have never worked for as crappy pay as that place again. And my story is leaving out a ton of other bs that went on while I was there. My best advice is if you can shop somewhere else even if it will cost a little bit more I would instead of supporting these assholes they care about no one or thing except money they try to make a good front but their really sweatshop pushers.

I cannot believe the understaffing and poor customer relations that are apparently the common practice in my local Walmart store. Every time I go in there (which isn’t often), I find my self at the very least frustrated and disappointed, if not, livid by the time I am ready to actually walk out of the store. Between the lack of associates to offer assistance, the ridiculous wait time in the check-out lines, and my personal pet peeve, the self check-outs, I cannot remember a time that I had even a satisfactory shopping experience, let alone, a good one. Today was the icing on the cake! The day after Christmas and the store was, as usual, completely understaffed. Am I the only one who thinks that common sense would tell the management team that thousands of people receive Walmart gift cards for Christmas gifts and that the smart thing to do would be to staff accordingly for the week or two after the holiday?! There have been times when I have just left my cart full of items and gone to another store. I would not even have been in there today, except my children and I had received Walmart gift cards. I’ve said it before, but this time I mean it; unless I have received a gift card expressly for Walmart, I am done patronizing their stores! It took forever to be assisted in the electronic department, the 3 check-out lanes that were actually run by cashiers had lines longer than ever, the self check-out gave my daughter problems (and of course not an associate could be found to help), and to top it off the earrings I purchased will not even unclasp so that I can remove them from the back they come on. Now I HAVE to go back so that I can return the stinking earrings….ARGGHH! After that, though, I am DONE WITH WALMART!
