Biopsy crullers. Chemo. Radiotherapy. I think jokes about being crazy are funny, but not about the specific conditions. As it is most people don't understand what bipolar disorder is, or the other conditions being parodied. I am in a support group for people who have the disorder. Some of us have attempted suicide during depressive episodes. Some have been hospitalized, a few for having had psychotic breaks. Some of us have lost jobs. And we can't tell most people because they don't understand mental illness. It's often just as debilitating as a "physical" illness, but we can't tell people about it. You don't get fired for having cancer, but you can for having a mental illness, even if you're doing fine. So while we make wry jokes about our own experiences, it's upsetting to see people laughing at this. Our kids and spouses don't find our disorders funny either.
