Barry's book was a great read for me at this point in my life. As most of you know, I am in the process of starting a business. I just left my job a few weeks ago, and am now focused on the new venture full-time. What I like most about this book is that Barry is honest. There is no glamour and glitz – just the hard truth about being an entrepreneur. You don't select this path for the money, the freedom, or fame (although if you do it right then in the long term you could get all those things) – you do it for the experience. The best part about the book is that it isn't a "how to" book for starting your own business, it is about what to expect – really. It addresses all the issues no one ever thinks about: family, troubles with business partners, networking, and finding customers when you don't have any name recognition. Overall, it is one of the better business books I have read.
Anyway, I seem to have had some technical difficulties today with changing internet service and all. I didn't get to connect with Barry as much as I would have liked to. Tomorrow's stop will be at Ensight, so check it out.
