“The quant MBA, with an online version that made the format respectable.”

Scorecard
Four pillars, weighted into the BP ScoreOur review
Tepper teaches the MBA the way Carnegie Mellon teaches everything: as an optimization problem. The curriculum leans on modeling and analytics harder than any peer, the capstone puts students in front of operations-research problems most programs would outsource, and employers hiring for product, pricing, and supply-chain roles have noticed for decades.
Two other credentials share the building’s reputation. The part-online hybrid MBA finished third in U.S. News’s 2026 online ranking — and Poets&Quants’ cost survey pegs it at $147,648, pricey for the format but cheap for the faculty. The MS in Computational Finance, run jointly with the math and CS departments, remains the default resume line on quant desks.
Pittsburgh is affordable and increasingly credible as a robotics-and-AI town, but the on-campus recruiting list stays short, and 40% international enrollment collides with a tightening visa market. Tepper graduates do well; they also do more of their own sourcing than M7 peers.
What impressed us
- Quant depth. The most analytical MBA curriculum in the ranking.
- Online credibility. U.S. News No. 3, same professors as campus.
- MSCF pipeline. The quant-desk credential, two decades running.
What gave us pause
- Short recruiter list. Small class, fewer on-campus employers.
- Visa exposure. 40% international enrollment meets a hostile market.
The verdict
Best-in-class for quantitative careers — product analytics, pricing, operations, quant finance via the MSCF — and the strongest online MBA faculty anywhere. Extroverts chasing brand-name consulting scale should size the trade honestly.
