“Orange County's quiet tech-and-health economy, with a digital-first MBA.”

Our review
Orange County’s economy is bigger than most states’ — medical devices (Edwards, Masimo), gaming (Blizzard’s legacy cluster), and a private-equity belt along the 405 — and Merage is its only research-university MBA. The curriculum’s digital-transformation framing lands because the local employers are mid-transformation themselves.
The class runs small and heavily international, UC pricing keeps costs below private rivals, and Irvine’s safety-and-sunshine pitch does real work for candidates with families. Placement in the low 80s reflects a market where hiring happens through networks more than campus visits.
What impressed us
- OC economy. Medtech and gaming clusters with little MBA competition.
- UC value. Public pricing in a private-priced region.
What gave us pause
- Low visibility. The brand under-registers beyond SoCal.
- Network-based market. On-campus recruiting is modest.
The verdict
The right-sized MBA for Southern California's overlooked second economy — medtech, gaming, PE operations. National brand seekers should look north or east.
